Smoke and Cupcakes
Mommy’s in the bathroom again
It’s her favorite place to be
In the shower or soaked in a tub
Is how she hides from her three
Kids she’d never abandon
Lucky to call her own
No luxury of just leaving
Like the only father they will know
Instead her bathroom fills
With the aroma of smoke and cupcakes
Maybe one more glass of wine
Will settle mommy’s inner earthquake
Turmoil rumbles in her mind
Daily build up of irritation
So she marinates and medicates
Frees up space for meditation
Mommy will be out in a minute
Baby please don’t cry
She just needs one more minute
To hide from her own life
It’s her favorite place to be
In the shower or soaked in a tub
Is how she hides from her three
Kids she’d never abandon
Lucky to call her own
No luxury of just leaving
Like the only father they will know
Instead her bathroom fills
With the aroma of smoke and cupcakes
Maybe one more glass of wine
Will settle mommy’s inner earthquake
Turmoil rumbles in her mind
Daily build up of irritation
So she marinates and medicates
Frees up space for meditation
Mommy will be out in a minute
Baby please don’t cry
She just needs one more minute
To hide from her own life
